Subject(s): Online resources: In: Mansoura Unviersity Journal of Agricultural Sciences 2007.v.32(7)Summary: The effects of organic, synthetic and biofertilizers on abundance of B. tabaci and predatory insects on potato plants were evaluated during 2003 and 2004. The application of either organic or synthetic fertilizers were found to increase pest populations on potato. However, there were lower populations of whitefly with the biofertilizer treatment. While, predator populations were larger on potato plants with high whitefly populations in the synthetic fertilizer than in the organic fertilizers treated plots. On the other hand, biofertilizer application reduced Whitefly population and in the same time gave the highest tuber yield. Obtained data suggested that the use of biofertilizer may be recommended as a substitute for chemical fertilization to reduce whitefly infestation and increase potato yield and quality.
