TI - Protective effect of antidote against free radicals induced by aflatoxin B1 in lambs KW - Lambs KW - Diseases KW - Aflatoxins KW - Physiological effect KW - Liver function tests KW - Kidney function tests KW - Trace elements in animal nutrition N1 - Includes references N2 - Aflatoxin B1 is a potent hepatotoxic and hepatocarcinogenic mycotoxin produces oxidative damage to the tissues through lipid peroxidation. A high morbidity and mortality were recorded in a lambs farm in a village belonging to Mounofia Governorate, 10 out of 40 balady lambs were moribund showing diarrhoea, salivation, caugh, sneezing with mucopurulent discharge and dyspenea. The Post-mortem examination revealed' intestinal congestion with hemorrhagic spots, flabby heart with hydropericardium and enlarged congested liver and kidneys. There was a significant increase in liver enzymes, urea, creatinine and magnesium. There was significant decrease in digestibility and daily body weight gain in lambs suffered from aflatoxicosis. After treatment with the antidote for 7 days, all parameters returned to normal. Determination of aflatoxin in ration of corn revealed the presence of aflatoxin B 1.
