TI - Observations on toxic effects of some desert plant extracts on the cowpea aphid Aphis craccivora koch KW - Desert plants KW - Aphis craccivora N1 - Includes references N2 - Petroleum ether, chloroform and acetone extracts of nine desert plants as compared with two neem commercial formulations (Neemazal-F and Neemazal-T) were tested for their toxicity against the cowpea adult aphid (A. craccivora) and its offspring. Chloroform and acetone extracts of Aadar (Artemisia monosperma) and Oshar (Calotropis procera) leaves and Gorthab (Polygonum equistiforme) were the most potent against the adult aphid and its offspring. However, petroleum ether extracts had poor activity. Aphid offspring were more susceptible to any of the neem formulations and the tested plant extracts and their TLC fractions than their parents. By two days treatment and at 10 mg/ml the botanical extracts killed 22.7 -76.7% of the treated adult aphids as compared with 60.1 -100% mortality in their offspring. The efficiency of Neemazal-F was more pronounced than that of Neemazal - T against both of the adult aphids and their offspring UR - http://nile.enal.sci.eg/EALE/2005/EJAR/8305/2si/609.pdf ER -
