Two field experiments were conducted at the Experimental Farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Moshtohor, Zagazig University during the two successive summer seasons of 1997 and 1998 to study the effect of irrigation intervals, fertilization levels and their interactions on vegetative growth characters and its chemicals composition. The irrigation intervals, were (½, 1, 1½ and 2) weeks and fertilization treatments were zero (NPK), (30N + 16P₂O₅ + 48 K₂O), (60N + 32 P₂O₅ + 72 K₂O), (90N + 48 P₂O₅ + 96 K₂O) and (l20N + 64 P₂O₅ + 120 K₂O) Kgf/Fed. Obtained results show that, irrigation interval (½week) or fertilization level (120N + 64P₂O₅ + 120 K₂O) Kg/Fed each alone or their combination had the best effect on all studied vegetative growth characters. i.e. plant height. number of leaves, leaf area. fresh weight of lamina. petiole and total plant as well as dry matter of plant. Also. photosynthetic pigments t.e chlorophyll (a, band total) besides the total carotenoides In this respect. the content of NPK in different plant parts as well as, total hydrolizable carbohydrates were increased in case of using irrigation interval one week combine with fertilizer level (90N +48 P₂O₅ + 96 K₂O) Kg/Fed.
