Thus, the independent and combined effects of, pinching once or twice after transplanting, and 2: 1:1 NPK fertilization at three levels [1,2 and 3 g/pot] on growth, flowering and chemical constituents of potted Bougainvillea were studied. The results showed that pinching treatments reduced plant height, but increased number of branches/plant, number of leaves / plant, foliage fresh and dry weights and number of inflorescences [bracts] / plant, leaf content of nitrogen and potassium, chlorophyll (a, b) and bracts content of total anthocyanins. The high and medium NPK levels increased plant height, number of leaves/plant, foliage fresh and dry weights, number of inflorescences (bracts)/plant, leaf content of N, P, K, chlorophyll (a, b), carotenoides and total carbohydrates and flower (bracts) content of total anthocyanins. From the interactions, it could be recommended to pinch Bougainvillea twice after 15 days from transplanting, and when the new lateral branches produced from the first pinching reached 5-10cm length and fertilize them with monthly NPK [2: 1: 1] at 3 g/pot (20cm) to obtain short pot plants with more number of branches and flowers UR - http://nile.enal.sci.eg/EALE/2004/JART/3004/1/114.pdf ER -
