In: Egyptian Journal of Agricultural Research 2014.v.92(1),SISummary: Enzymatic treatment of cotton towel and plain fabric has been carried out using commercially available cellulose enzyme at optimized conditions and dyeing with reactive dye. The results obtained compared the enzymatic treatment with the chemical treatment using commercial emulsion (Advopret M) as a chemical softener by measuring whiteness index, yellowness index, tensile strength (kgf), elongation (%), Color Strength (K/S), color components and stiffness. It was observed that the enzymatic treatment improved the whiteness index, Color Strength (K/S), and color components (L * a* b*, chroma, and hue). The results obtained revealed that the softening of plain fabric and towel increased with enzymatic treatment with better results for the plain fabric. On the other hand there was no significant difference in tensile strength and elongation between the enzymatic and chemical treatments.
