Four synthetic pyrethroids (deltamethrin, alpha-cypermethrin, lambda-cyhalothrin, cyphenothrin) and the three insecticides, temephos, pyriproxyfen as well as biological insecticide Bacillus thuringiensis were tested for their activity against the fourth instar larvae of Culex pipiens Linn. In addition, the four synthetic pyrethriods were tested for their activit against C. pipiens adults. LC₅₀ values for the abovementioned insecticides against the 4 instar larvae were 0.00072, 0.0009, 0.0008, 0.034, 0.0059, 0.000079 and 0.012 ppm, respectively. The respective values for the tested insecticides against adults of C. pipiens, using the bottle bioassay method, were 0.391, 1.043, 0.5 and 2.617 ug/bottle, in respect. Results of this study could be used for monitoring the appearance of resistance in feral populations at different localities of Saudi Arabia.
