Subject(s): Online resources: In: Agricultural Research Journal, Suez Canal University 2007 v.7(1)Summary: An experiment was conducted through three successive seasons (2000 to 2002) on Succary Abiad mango cv. trees to study the effect of calcium chloride (1 or 2 %) alone and in combination with zinc sulphate (0.2%), which applied once at pea stage (30 days after full bloom)or twice at pea and marble stages (60 days after full bloom). There was significant improve by the different treatments on the vegetative growth. Fruit number per tree, fruit weight, yield and fruit firmness were significantly increased by spraying Ca or Ca+ Zn. Ascorbic acid, total sugars, reducing and nonreducing sugars increased in fruit of the treated trees. N, P, K and Mg content in the leaves were not affected, while Ca, Zn, chloride and sulphate significantly increased in the treated leaves. Foliar spraying of Ca or Ca+ Zn affected the structure of the exocarp (skin) to maintain fruit quality. The obtained results led to conclude that foliar spraying of mango cv. Succary Abiad with Ca 1 %+ Zn 0.2 % or Ca 2 %+ Zn 0.2 % is very essential to increase fruit number, weight, yield and fruit firmness and to get good fruit quality.
