Subject(s): Online resources: In: Arab Universities Journal of Agricultural Science 2007.v.15(2)Summary: Sixteen yeast isolates from various sources including molasses, foodstuff concentrated .Juices and salls were identified using slmpldied API 20 C AUX yeast Identification system and random amplified polymorphic DNA-polymerase chain reaction (RAPD-PCR) The Isolates were found to belong to 11 species; Candida famata. C glabrata , C krusei /inconspicua, C norvegensis, C ,colliculosa,Cryptococcus humicolus, Rhodotorula muucilaginosa, Kloeckera spp., Geotrichum capitatum and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. API and RAPD-PCR proved to be useful and convenient taxonomic tools for rapid idetification at Ihe species level. proving that at least two techniques are needed for precise identification. RAPD-PCR procedure is faster than traditional characterization techniques; the identdification of a single colony was typically achieved in less than 10 hr.
