Subject(s): Online resources: In: Annals of Agricultural Science, Moshtohor 2007.v.45 (3)Summary: The present study was carried out at the ExperimentStation, Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University in Giza,Zenein, duringsummerand fall seasonsof 2005 and 2006 to study the relativesusceptibility of twelve cultivarsof white and coloured seededcommonbeans affected witJiM phaseo/i infestation, coincident to the plant age 45, 75 and 105 days from leaf emergence. The obtained results showed that the number of each insect larvae, mines and tunneled leaves increased significantly by increasing the plant age of testedcultivars, at a period 45-75 days in summer and at 45 -105 days in fall from leaf emergence while its number seemed to be non-significant at 45 days from leaf emergence in tested seasons. During summer season; Bronco cv. was found free from these infestations and provedto be completely tolerant, whereas Giza 6, SeJbo,Helda, HAB 460,51 and Morgan cvs. were more susceptible, Giza 3, Marum and Star Light were less susceptible, the cuItivars Diacol Calima and Line 337 showed moreresistance to insect infestations. Duringthefall one;Bronco, DiacolCalima, HAB 460 and Morgan cvs. recorded low susceptible while Giza 3, Marum, Giza 6, Serbo, Helda, Star Light, Line 337 and 51 were more susceptible. In general, the white seeded cultivars of tested beans were more susceptible than colored ones. Also, this work aimed to study the growth characters of tested bean cultivars and to determine the yield attributes of green pods as affected with the insect severity. Results during the tested seasons indicated that there were significant differences between tested cultivars concerning the averageof number of leaves / plant, plant height,Pod lengthandpoddiameter, numberof pods /plant and number of seeds / pod. where non-significant variation were found in leaf area and the number of days before flowering in these cultivarS in the tested seasons. Each of Helda and Serbo cvs. was the hignest cultivar while Serbo cv. had the highestvalue of numberof leavesand HeIda cv. had the highest leafarea. longest pod length and its diameter. 51 cv. was the best one for high numberof pods and pod seeds as well as it wasthe earlier in flowering thanthe other tested cultivars. The results showed that the averageyield of green pods per plots for tested cultivars was significantly reduced as severity of infestation increased during two seasons.
