The clay minerals of five soil profiles representive of some vertisols of Nile Delta and Kharga Depression in Egypt were investigated. The mineralogy of most Vertisole is dominated by montmorillonite. calcite, quartz and feldspares are the non-clay admixture. The mineralogy of both fine and coarse clay fractions. Some samples have attapulgite and verniculite minerals. In addition, there are some samples nonlayer silcate minerals such as quartz and feldspars in the coarse clay fraction.
