Subject(s): Online resources: In: The bulletin. Faculty of Agriculture. Cairo University 2006.v.57(4)Summary: Subjecting the ill vitro explants of Populus alba to various combinations of different concentrations of colchicine and salinity (NaCI) exhibited a significant fluctuations in their micropropagability and their chemical constituents. The peak capacity of bud sprouting (95.89-100.0) was recorded after culturing the colchicine (100 or 1000ppm)-treated-explants into a medium provided with NaCI up to 8000ppm. Non-colichicine treated explants produced the greatest number of shootlets. while colchicine (1000ppm)-treated explants which were cultured into a control-medium resulted in the tallest shootlets. highest number of leaves and heaviest dry weight of shootlets. Non-colchicine-and colchicine (1000ppm)-treated explants displayed maximum values of rooting response (92-100%). root number and root length after exposing to up to 4000 ppm NaCI.
