Subject(s): Online resources: In: Egyptian Journal of Agricultural Research 2006.v.84 (5)Summary: The genome of Gossypium barbadense.L is potentially an important genetic resource for cotton breeding programs. Analysis of genetic relationships of cotton can proVide a relative measure of genetic diversity, an index for parental selection and structure for stratified sampling of populations. This research aims to study the genetic relationships among 15 genotypes belonging to Gossypium barbadense. L. Results revealed that the highest mean values of boll weight, seed cotton yield and lint yield were obtained by the variety Giza83, while Giza88 variety was the best variety for fiber quality. Genotypes x environment interaction was of highy magnitude for boll weight, seed cotton yield and lint percentage. The results indicated that there were a marked amount of genetic variance and high heritability estimates for boll weight, seed cotton yield, lint percentage, micronair value, pressly index and 2.5% span length. Moderate heritability estimates in broad sense were obtained for lint cotton yield, seed index and lint index, while length uniformity ratio showed low heritability estimates in broad sense. Genetic coefficient of variability ranged from 1.1 (for length uniformity ratio) to 7.773 (for lint yield).
