Today, food colorants additives are randomly used in many foods. However, their use in food is still controversial. It causes and will cause severe tension to the consumers as the general health sensitivity of people increases. The present study on rats aimed to investigating the genotoxic effects induced by tartrazine and chocolate brown as synthetic food coloring agents. Such effect might explain hyperactivity of children that was claimed to be associated with consumption of food colorants.
