Results indicated a wide genetic variation among S1 progenies for all studied traits. Out of the two components of oil yield plant, the most determinant one was oil content in Loc-Pop and grain yield plant in Pop-59. Broad-sense heritability was the highest for oil content and the lowest for grain yield per plant and per feddan. Predicted genetic advance (GA) from direct selection was higher than that from indirect selection in a secondary trait for the improvement of oil content, grain yield/plant or oil yield /plant. Expected GA% from direct selection for oil content was higher in Loc-Pop (71.41%) than in Pop-59 (37.35%), but for grain yield plant was higher in. Pop-59 (61.30%) than in Loc-Pop (43.84%). Based on relative efficiency estimates, the best secondary trait for the improvement of oil yield/plant was oil content for Loc-Pop and grain yield/plant for Pop-59. However, for the improvement of oil content, the best secondary trait was oil yield/plant for both studied populations.
