The effect of irrigation on yield, yield components and seed quality of various faba bean varieties was determined in field and laboratory experiments for two seasons 200112002 and 2002/2003. Field experiments were carried out at the Research and Experimental Station of the Faculty of Agriculture at Moshtohor, Kalubia Governorate, Egypt, while laboratory investigations conducted at Seed Technology Research Department, ARC. Irrigation treatments included one, two and three irrigations. The results indicated that yield and its components (plant height ,no. of branch /plant, no. of pods /plant, no. of seeds /pod, pod weight,100-seed weight and seed yield /fed) significantly decreased as the number of irrigation reduced from three irrigations to twice and up to once. The yield reduced about 52 % and 15.5 % from one and two irrigations compared with three irrigations. This reduction in yield may be due to lower no. of branches, pods, seeds /plant, pod weight and 100-seed weight. Faba bean varieties response differently to reducing irrigation number, Giza843 cv gave the higher yield (1365 kg/fed.) than other varieties (Misr l, Giza3, and Giza716).While Misr l cv was the lowest one (1092 kg./fed.) .Molecular weight of proteins were affected by reducing irrigation number, whereas, protein molecular weight ranged from 265.015 to 14.819 Kd, number and location of bands varied according to the growing faba bean varieties and irrigation number. The number of irrigation effected in seed viability as measured by germination 0/0, seedling vigor as measured by seedling characteristics and Electrical conductivity (EC). The correlation coefficient for the relationship between seed yield and yield components from the one hand, and between seed viability and seedling vigor from the other hand, were highly significant, this indicated the important of irrigation number for producing high yield and good seed quality of faba bean crop.
