Subject(s): Online resources: In: Egyptian journal of botany 2004.v.44Summary: Two field experiments were carried out in newly cultivated Sandy land at El-Bostan, EI-Ghazaly village, Behira Governorate in winter seasons of2001 /2002 and 2002/2003 to study the partition and migration of photosynthates in four safflower cultivars grown in Egypt. The main results can be summarized as follows :- 1- Significant differences were obtained in growth parameters at the different growth stages ( except SLW at 80 days after sowing) and in yield and its components ( except migration coefficient ). 2- The four safflower cultivars significantly differed in photosynthatcs partitioning, in energy yield per plant and / or per feddan for seed, straw, above ground biomass and energy coefficient for crop index and harvest index. 3- Harvested safflower yield can be increased by growing the two safflower cultivars Giza-l and Demo-l57 that are characterized by:- a-Its increasing in energy percentage of photosynthate partitioned into the yield components of the plant. b-Its increasing in the total energy in dry matter produced.
