Siwa Oasis occupies a large depression west of the Egyptian Western desert, approximately 300 Km south from the Mediterranean coast. It stretches roughly from east to west for approximately 82 Km, with a width that varies between 9 and 28 Km, and a total area of about 2,950 sq. km. Siwa oasis is opening from the border of the Libyan plateau to the large desert sandy area of the Great Sea of Sand.
