Subject(s): Online resources: In: Zagazig Journal of Agricultural Research 2004.v.31(4A)Summary: Line x Tester analysis using six rice genotypes was carried out to study the different genetic components of some '-¬ agronomic, yield and yield components character in rice under saline conditions. Six local and exotic rice genotypes differ in their reaction to salinity were used at EI-Sirw Research station, Damiette , A.R.C. ,Egypt, during 2001 and 2002 rice growing seasons. Results showed high potential - of heterosis breeding- for increasing the yielding ability under such affected areas. Dominance component had the major role in the genetics for most of the studied traits. Estimates of general combining ability and specific combining ability variance and their ratio indicated a preponderance of non¬ additive gene effects for most of the studied traits, except plant height, number of filled grain /panicle and grain weight/plant The rice genotypes Sakha 101 and Suweon 339 showed the highest mean performance and significant desirable general combining ability effects for most of the studied traits, indicating their importance as a good general combiners in breeding programs for most of yield component traits under saline conditions. Specific combining ability analysis revealed that the crosses IRA T 259 x Sakha 101, Suweon 339 x Sakha 101,IET 1444 x Sakha 101 and lET 1444 x Sakha 103 were superior concerning most of the studied traits.
