Subject(s): Online resources: In: Egyptian journal of soil science 2003 v .43 (1)Summary: Two field experiments were conducted to study the effect of the hydrogels (0. 57 kg of supemydro and 2.4 rolls of DW AUha. at EI-Arish. and O. 57 kg of superhydro. 2.4. 4.8 and 7.1 rolls of DW AUha. at Rafah and irrigation for one hour (one hour irrigation = 47.1 2 m3/ ha.) 1. 2. 3 and 6 times per week on yield and water use efficiency. The indicator plants were squash (at EI-Arish and Rafah) and okra and squash (at Rafah), The hydrogels increased the yield. water use efficiency and saved irrigation water. The highest yield of okra and squash was obtained with 57 kg superhydro and 7. 1 rolls DW AL/ha.. respectively in Rafah. Also. the squash yield of the 57 leg of superhydro/ha. exceeded that of 2.4 rolls DW AL fha. in the two locations. In Rafah location, okra yield and its water use efficiency decreased with increasing DW AL from 2.4-7. I rolls/ha. An opposite trend was noticed in the case of squash. From water economy point of view, EI-Arish is preferred for squash than Rafah. and squash is preferred than olera at Rafah.
