Subject(s): Online resources: In: Journal of Agricultural Research Kafrelsheikh University 2009.v.35(1)Summary: The photocatalytic degradation of carbofuran that considered a water priority pollutant at a concentration level of 5 mg1-1 in aqueous system was carried out by means of single oxidants: ZnO, H202, Fe3+, ZnO/H202 and Fe3+/H202 as well as by combination of these oxidants with UV-irradiation.Carbofuran samples were taken at regular intervals of irradiation time followed by HPLC analysis to monitor the losses in carbofuran concentrations with irradiation time. Furthermore, to confirm the complete detoxification of carbofuran under these systems, the effect of irradiated samples on the activity of acetyl-cholinesterase (AChE), the sensitive target of carbofuran, relative to control treatment was evaluated. Keywords: carbofuran, fenton, toxicit, degradation, Acetylcholinesterase (AChE)
