The last century has witnessed the adoption of many technologies in managing the land resources, leading to ever-increasing yield plateaus that provided goods and services needed by the increasing numbers of populations. However, concomitant environmental degradation precipitated second thoughts as it was realized that land management is not a simple technical issue. and that adopted technologies should be conducive to and compatible with sustainability. In this context the current innovation in the information systems poses itself as an extended opportunity and a challenge. It is now possible to use models to compute expected yields under various management scenarios.
