Subject(s): Online resources: In: Egyptian Journal of Agricultural Research 2014.v.92(1),SISummary: The field experiments were conducted at Sakha Agricultural Research Station at Kafr EI-Sheikh Governorate, Egypt, during the two growing seasons of 2012 and 2013 to study the effect of sprinkler irrigation system under different pressures and planting patterns (row. width +hill spadng) on growth and yield and yield components for the new promising hybrid cotton [Giza 84 (Giza 70 x 51B)] Pima 62. A split plots design with four replications was used, where the main plots involved three inlet pressures for sprinkler irrigation method (2, 2.5 and 3 bar) and the s ub plots involved four planting patterns (65 em row width + 10 em hill space thinned in one plant /hill, 65 em row width + 20 em hill space thinned on two plant /hill, 90 em row width + 10 em hill space thinned in one plant /hill and 90 em row width + 20 em hill space thinned on two plant /hill). The results indicated that inlet pressure for sprinkler irrigation system and planting patterns had a highly significant effect on plant height, number of fruiting branches/plant, number of open bolls/plant, boll weight and seed cotton yield /fed. Operating sprinkler at 2.5 bar as an inlet pressurt:? gave a best water distribution over land. Sprinkler irrigation system under 2.5 bar significantly increased number of fruiting branches, number of open bolls /plant, seed index and seed cotton yield/fed. while decreased plant height. The planting pattern (65 em row width + 10 em hill space thinned on one plant/hill) gave the good values of number of fruiting branches/plant, number of open bolls/plant, boll weight, seed index and seed cotton yield/fed. Sprinkler irrigation system under pressure 2.5 bar and the planting pattern (65 em row width + 10 em hill space thinned on one plant/hill) interaction significantly increased number of fruiting branches/plant, boll weight, number of open bolls /plant, seed index and seed cotton yield /fed. Lint % was insignificantly affected by treatments and their interaction in both seasons. It could be concluded that using sprinkler irrigation system under pressure 2.5 bar and the planting pattern (65 em row width + 10 em hill space thinned on one plant/hill) in the best for high productivity of the new promising hybrid cotton [Giza 84 (Giza 70 x 51B)] Pima 62 under Sakha location.
