Subject(s): Online resources: In: Misr Journal of Agricultural Engineering 2012.No. (20)Summary: The agricultural crop residuals are considered one ofthe most important problems thatface the environmental life and farmers in Egypt. The mechanical treatment (cutting or chopping and briquetting processes) is the prima!)' step and suitable solution for solving this problem. So the aim of the present work is to develop a local machine, that combining shear and hammer mill theo!)l. The performance of investigated prototype was evaluated under different parameters including drum rotational speed; concave holes diameter and tools arrangement steps. The output parameters taking into consideration prototype productivity, power requirement, specific energy and particle size distribution (fineness degree). The output evaluation was conducted on two different crops (rice straw and corn stalks) with 9.0 and 8.4 w. b moisture content. Evaluate the local chopping machine. lInder different stages of experiment to determine the best position and arra"gement for new parts ofdrum. The experiments of this study were carried out in the Department of Agriculture Engineering, Faculty ofAgriculture, Menoufia University and Agriculture Engineering Research Institute .The modified machine is suitable for small farms by lowest cost and highest remaining percentage for shredding wastes. The obtained results showed that, the disc mills are responsible for cutting operation and the other jla"il knives supports the process to the cuttingforce.
