The research aim to fabricate and test a simple locally made residuals
chopper. To achieve this goal experiments were carried ollt at El-Santa
City El-Gharbia Governorate and the data were ana(vsis in Agricultural
Engineering Research Institute (A EnRI). The studied factors included
drum speeds (1000, 1300 and 1600 rpm) equivalent to (20.93,27.2/ and
33.49 m/!J), kni....es number (0, 3 and 6 knives), concave holes diameter (0,
5, 8 and 10 mm) and gate angle (60,120 and 180). Some Physical
properties of rice straw were studied. The chopping machine evaluation
was based on determining particle size distribution of chopping rice
straw, mean length, productivity, energy requirement and chopping
machinery costs. It could be concluded that the maximum productivity
was 30.6 kg/h and the optimum specific energy requirement of 52.08
kWh/Mg were obtained at dntm speed of 1600 rpm, 6 knives, gate angle
of180 0 and concave holes diameter of10 mm.
