Subject(s): Online resources: In: Journal of the Advances in Agricultural Researches 2013.v.18(1)Summary: The aim of this work is to analyze the genetic diversity of ten elite Egyptian wheat varieties using inter simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers. Results showed that the percentage of polymorphic loci of the 10 populations ranged from 12.5% to 50%. Nei's unbiased genetic diversity estimated from ten wheat varieties varied from 0.04 to 0.22 with standard deviation ± 0.12 and ± 0.24 respectively, while that of Shannon information index varied from 0.06 to 0.32 with standard deviation of ± 0.17 and ± 0.34 respectively, implying that there was low variation in the studied wheat genotypes. The average genetic diversity within varietal populations, estimated with Nei's genetic diversity (H) was 0.10, while Shannon index was 0.1. ISSR could be use as an effective molecular marker tool for the evaluation of genetic diversity.
