Subject(s): Online resources: In: Zagazig Veterinary Journal 2005.v.33(1)Summary: This work has designed to determine direct detection of Rota virus in faeces of pigs by Latex agglutination (LA) test as well as Sero prevalence of Rota virus antibodies in pig sera by Serum neutralization and Agar gel precipitation tests. 100 faecal samples were collected and examined by LA test; 50 faecal samples from slaughter house and their results were 2 positive (4%) and other 50 faecal samples.were collected from garbage feeding pigs and their results were 5 positive (10%). The results revealed that the latex agglutination test in the detection of Rota virus is a rapid and specific test. These results also showed that the garbage feeding pigs were more carrier of Rota virus than slaughter house pigs. Comparing the results of the two diagnostic tests used for detection of Rota virus antibodies in 100 serum samples; there was variation in the results that serum neutralization test gave percentage of 81% while agar gel precipitation test gave 12%.
