Subject(s): Online resources: In: Journal of the Advances in Agricultural Researches 2005.v.10(2)Summary: Incubation and field experiments were carried out by using lacustrine soil from Agricultural Research Station (ARS) at Abis, Faculty of Agriculture, Alex. Univ. and sewage sludge compost produced from Site 9N of Alexandria General Organization for Sanitary Drainage (AGOSD) to estimate urease activity in sewage sludge-treated soil. In incubation experiment, soil-sludge mixtures (0, 80, and 160 9 sludge kg,1 soil) were incubated for 0, 10,20,40 and 80 days at 22:t 1 DC with maintaini\g soil moisture at 60 %of water holding capacity (WHC) by distilled water. The amounts ~ N03' and NO£-N were found to increase with increasing sludge rate, while those of NH/-N were decreased during incubation period. At zero time incubation, urease activity significantly decreased from 87.5 to 48.0 u~ NH4 \N g,1 soil 2hrs,1 in sludge untreated soil and in sludge treated soil (160 g sludge kg' soil). However, urease activity in soil significantly increased with incubation time and was higher in soil-sludge mixture than in the control soil.
