An aXial-flow pump was developed to meet the needs of the surface irrigation system in Egypt (low lift, 3 m or less). The development of the new prototype was based on changing of pump casing design. Four different types of impellers (three of them were single stage and the fourth type was two stages) had been tested. The performance curves of the developed pump at 2500 and 2800 r.p.m shaft rotation speed indicated that doubling the number of blades and the number of stages improved the pump performance efficiency. The fourth type of impeller (double stage impeller, two blades each) at 2800 r.p.m and at the most promissing pump efficiency gave 194.4 m3 / h discharge. 395 m total head. 4 16 kW brake power and 47 % efficiency.
