Includes references.
Green-staple trait in a short green-staple cotton cultivar was transferred to Tak Fa 2 cotton (a good long white-staple cultivar) by inter-cultivar crossing in 2000, following by backcrossing to Tak Fa 2 and selection for good green-staple yielding cotton plants in four succeeding generations. In each backcrossing, bulked seeds were collected from green-staple cotton plants with Tak Fa 2 plant type (especially good yield, long staple or fiber and leaf roll disease resistance). Seeds of BC₄F₂ - BC₄F₅ were used in pedigree method of pure line selection. In 2007, only 20 good yielding BC₄F₅ lines or . families with good green-staple quality and uniform Tak Fa 2 plant type were selected and further evaluated in 2008-2011. The promising, Tak Fa 86-5 was outstanding in green-stable quality, high stable yield and leaf roll disease resistance.
