Subject(s): Online resources: In: Abbassa Internation Journal for Aquaculture 2009Summary: This study was designed to determine the effect of two probiotics feed supplements (biogen and moreyeast) on the hematological parameters, biochemical constituents of blood, immune response and evaluation of the degree of improvement of pathological lesions induced by Aeromonas hydrophila following probiotics administration in cultured tilapia. Fifty Nile tilapia fishes (Oreochromis niloticus) were included in this study. Fishes were divided into three groups Group (1) 20 fishes which fed diet supplemented by biogen at a dose of 2 kg/ ton diet, Group (2) 20 fishes which fed diet supplemented by moreyeast at a dose of 5 kg/ton diet. Group (3) control group which consisted of 10 fishes fed diet without feed additives. After 7 weeks all groups were subdivided to induce experimental infection by Aeromonas hydrophila, .One subgroup from each was inoculated intraperitoneally with 0.2 ml of bacterial suspension of Aeromonas hydrophila while the other subgroups were remained without injection by Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria. Results revealed that the use of both probiotics supplemented diets affecting positively hematological parameters (RBCs, PCV, Hb concentration, WBCs, lymphocytes and heterophils), in addition to the plasma biochemical changes such as increase the level of total proteins, globulins, lipid profile and creatinine while it decrease the concentration of urea and glucose except in the experimentally infected groups. Also, it decreases the activities of plasma ALT and AST, decreased the mortality rate of the experimentally infected fishes while the antibody titer revealed non significant changes compared to the control group. On the other hand, lesions iduced by Aeromonas hydrophila toxins were less in those groups administered probiotics.
