Subject(s): Online resources: In: Zagazig Journal of Agricultural Research 2015.v.42(2)Summary: In 2013 and 2014, Superior Seedless (SS) grapevines were pruned traditionally to fruit canes (FCs), 14 buds in length and renewal spurs (RSs), 2 buds in length and received hydrogen cyanamide (HC) spray at 5% 'on the 1-year-old wood on 8 Jan., (cont.). Other four treatments were tried; they were similar to control, but without RSs which were replaced by another HC spray (5%) on the basal section (5 buds) of each FC. This was practiced at 2, 4, 6 or 8 days before the control (8th Jan.) in 2013. In 2014, however, the dates of spraying the basal sections were changed to be 6 or 8 days before or after 81 h Jan. The main goal of this study was to simplify the traditional cane pruning system by using the FCs as both fruiting and renewal organs without the use of RSs. The obtained results cleared that spraying the basal sections of FCs 8 days before the control (on 31st Dec.) promote.d" budburst on their basal sections, even the 1st basal bud. This gives a possibility of using these basal shoots as the FCs of the next year.
