Pinus ponderosa does not always support dendrochronology [electronic resource]. - p.23-32

A mature open-grown Pinus ponderosa tree was felled in winter 2009, Sidi Arhoma Farm, Al-Marg-Libya. A Disc at 0.5 m above ground of its trunk was removed, and transferred to the laboratory. Time series of ring widths over four radii, 90° to one another, from pith outwards were plotted. Tree-ring data from this study do not support three key assumptions made by dendrochronology: 1) Standardization of master chronologies: 2) The assumption tha: any smgle radius is highly representative of the trunk as a whole, and 3) Cross-dating done on the basis of what dendrochronologists have perceived to be "sensitive" rings.
