يعتبر القطاع الزراعي قطاعا اقتصاديا هاما ومصدرا للدخل لما يزيد عن نصف عدد السكان في مصر كما انه قطاع متميز بين القطاعات الاقتصادية الاخري في مصر حيث يساهم بحوالي 16 % من الانتاج المحلي الاجمالي ويعتبر قطاع الانتاج الحيواني ركيزة اساسية للانتاج الزراعي بالاضافة الي الانتاج النباتي.
