Subject(s): Online resources: In: Beni-Suef Veterinary Medical Journal 2001.v. 11(2A)Summary: Two hundreds and eighty five Egyptian sheep (Rahmani and Osimi) consisted of 277 ewes and 8 rams of 2-4 years old, located in a flock at Matrouh governorate during summer and winter 2000-2001 were used in this study. The clinical signs, were seen on 162 sheep of both breeds. The signs were intense in young sheep than old one and severe itching was common particularly at night. Macroscopically, alopecia, fissured skin covered with greyish white scabs on face and ears and small focal pustules scattered on the face. Microscopically, epidermal and dermal changes were seen with presence of sarcoptic mites inside the epidermal tunnels and demodectic mites inside the hair follicles of dermis. Epidermal hyperplasia hyperkeratosis and parakeratosis were recorded. Pustules of variable sizes between the epidermal cells were seen filled with neutrophils and mononuclear cells. The dermis showed elongated rete pegs from proliferative epidermal cells. Large dilated hair follicles filled with mites which surrounded by Hoeppli-splendore material.
